Bulging and Herniated Disc Treatment in Terrace BC

Two of the most common injuries to the spinal discs are bulging discs and herniated discs. Bulging discs (which are also sometimes called slipped discs, protrusions, or protruding discs) are not as severe as herniated discs. Your vertebrae (and the nerves that pass between them from your spinal cord to the rest of your body) are cushioned by intervertebral discs. They have a tough outer layer and are filled with a shock-absorbing, jelly-like material (It’s kind of like a jelly donut). If a disc bulges too far, it may pinch nerves, or even the spinal cord. This can cause radiating pain through the back, neck and into the arms or legs, depending on the location of the bulging disc. Bulging discs respond well to chiropractic treatment with our SpineFit treatment.

Our Chiropractor in Terrace Explains Herniated Disc Pain Relief

At SpineFit we do a thorough examination, and review your MRI results to come up with an exact diagnosis and treatment plan tailored to your specific disc injury. Most injured discs respond well to treatment in our office, but in severe cases, surgery may be necessary. Discs might herniate for several different reasons:

  • Years of poor posture (at work, at home, during exercise, etc.
  • Incorrect lifting technique
  • A sudden injury (car accident injury, sports, injury, slipping and falling down, etc.)

Even a sudden cough, sneeze, or just bending over to pick something up off the floor can split open a disc that had previously been bulging or weakened and cause it to herniate, allowing the inner part of the disc squish out, painfully pinching the nerves.

While some herniated discs may require surgical intervention, most of them respond successfully to drug-free, non-invasive chiropractic care. So be sure to discuss your options with our chiropractor so you can get the most effective pain relief and healing options for your situation. Our doctors can help you with the following treatments:

Chiropractic spinal adjustments alleviate one of the major causes of herniated discs—spinal subluxations. With gentle, precise spinal adjustments, our chiropractor corrects posture and alignment of the vertebrae. This removes undue pressure from discs and the nerves for welcome pain relief.

Therapeutic exercises taught by our doctors strengthen your core and retrain your muscles to maintain correct posture naturally so you avoid damaging discs in the future.

At SpineFit Rehab and Wellness we also offer targeted spinal decompression for bulging or herniated discs.  You lay down on a comfortable bed with a harness around your waist to gently decompression the spine.  The table has a gentle vibration to relax the muscles and soothe you into relaxation, getting better results.  Laser therapy can be used to decrease pain and speed healing of injured discs.

Contact us today if you have or think you have a bulging or herniated disc, as the sooner we start treatment, the better your outcome likely will be.
